Halo 5 is one of the weaker offerings in the series though still good overall it lacks in the campaign end. If you guys have the time and cash both are worth your time. Gears 5 feels a lot clunkier for me firing feels delayed who knows i might just be going crazy. I play both games right now and both have their charms and set backs. Gears of war 4 both the single player campaign is top notch and the online is great. If you can only choose one i d say 5 for sure just for longevity.

The game doesnt really give you a sense of progression or anything to play and strive for.
